Deja View = you've seen this before. When watching on original VHS the term is "Deja Video."
It's always "Do you want to watch Groundhog Day?"
"We must have seen that movie a hundred times."
fun fact: one of the creators in an interview many years after it premiered said that phil spent at least 40 years in the loop perhaps even more... that is a minimum of 14,600 days!
I had an idea for Groundhog Day 2, which was put out trailers and posters and commercials for Groundhog Day 2 and then just show the original and if only like five people get the joke, even better.
The original concept for Groundhog Day was way more serious and existential. Reminded me of how Pretty Woman was originally written as a gritty cautionary tale
like a video game, I like that he uses his respawning to perfect things like the robbery, to explore different locations, people all on the same day, to acquire new skills piano, ice sculpting etc.
And by becoming a better person, finds love with someone he had just tried superficially to win over
If I had finished my PhD, I might’ve dissertated on GHD. I’ve always also seen it as a study about how US film resolves narrative via romantic coupling — prob not the most original idea…
local Buddhist center used to do an intro to Buddhism talk where they used Groundhog Day as representative of the American Buddhist experience -- you're stuck in this recurring cycle of reincarnation, but there's no cultural guidance and you have to figure it all out on your own
I went to Punxatawny one year and it was every bit as bizarre as the film. Some random guy came up to me menacingly in a dark alley saying "I'm not being funny but can you help me stop my friend being arrested?" He got arrested.
Just realized the cop says “you can go back to Punxsutawney or you can freeze to death” and the homeless guy later (almost) freezes to death in Punxsutawney
(Also this tweet is my very first time learning how to spell Punxsutawney)
I was just thinking of you - said, "Dear God we need a Sarah Cooper video impersonating the orange idiot" -Miss your hysterical videos - got me thru' COVID!!!

And again.

"We must have seen that movie a hundred times."
"Yes, of course, I love that movie."
"I'll get the popcorn. Extra butter?
"Yes, please."

Oh no there wouldn’t be TODAY!
Makes me laugh every time and I still don’t understand it
At least, that’s how I’ve always interpreted it.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I don’t think so but I could check with the kitchen?
