I do very much believe in supporting journalism, by the way—I subscribe to ProPublica and the Texas Observer. But the Guardian—as much good journalism that they do publish—are also one of the reasons TERFism took off in the UK, and transphobia became a major political issue in UK & USA.
Yeah they say this and then regularly platform transphobia. They were also part of the smear campaign against Corbyn. Finally, they've been horrible on Palestine (not sure if you saw the Howard Jacobson piece). Don't support them.
Papers aren't great tbh. Ft is the best of them. Other suggestions

They aren't wrong. But I live in Australia and the last time I tried to subscribe the Guardian I could only subscribe to the UK version (it seemed) with no guarantee about where my money was going. Guardian Aus has always seemed pretty good to me. UK Guardian is... less accurate, perhaps?
