agreed! the university library i work in put on display some of these books in the lobby after the ban. hoping more students will peruse, think, start taking action.
I grew up in the era of the Catholic Index of Forbidden Books and Movies, taught to us in Catechism class and from the pulpit. I got my best leads from it, discovering the Kings James Version of the Bible, Karl Marx and Voltaire, and most of Marilyn Monroe’s movies.
On that very happy note, I'm tapping out for tonight. Thank you for that. I have often been surprised at some of the really good things that are coming out of this. It's like when George Floyd was murdered, I found James Baldwin. Never heard of him before. And it means so much to me now
I'm 67 and I'm reading 'I know why the Caged Bird Sings' for the first time and it's so painfully honest that I can only manage it in small doses. Then I have to go away and think a lot about what I've just read.
Lord we ask for peace for those who need peace, reconciliation for those who need reconciliation and comfort for all who don't know what tomorrow will bring🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦
High five to your mom. I’m an old HS Eng teacher I enjoyed offsetting novels on the old curriculum with a room set of current titles e.g. 1984 (scary enough, even then) followed by Handmaids Tale…great opportunity to study female/male author’s take on fascism…Anyway, your comment brings memories.
