Trump's plan to reclassify 50,000 federal workers would make them easier to fire for political reasons. Critics say this threatens the merit-based, politically neutral #civilservice that 87% of Americans support. A public affairs professor explains: #polisky

While it's true that Democrats in Congress -- and especially the House -- have relatively little power right now, what they can do is use their local offices to find people suffering from Trump's policies, like this caller, and lift up their voices and tell their stories

Great question. In most states, Medicaid is called something else and MOST people on these insurances don't even realize they are on it. For instance, in Connecticut it's called "HUSKY" in California it's called Medi-Cal. This is OUR opportunity to educate people & a sad &TRUE #FAFO moment in time.

Keep yelling! Itā€™s working!

ā€œThe Wild Robotā€ is the only Oscar-nominated film this year to reflect the ecological crises that are bearing down on the planet. Just held a town hall with the Wisconsin Farmers Union. They invited all the elected officials in the area. Unfortunately, no Republicans showed up, including Rep. Van Orden and Rep. Tiffany. youtube.com/shorts/R3_X8...

It's pretty cool that Eater put together resources for restaurants about how to handle ICE raids

The Dept. of Educationā€™s decision to eliminate race-conscious policies ignores systemic inequities that still exist in education. Equity isnā€™t preferenceā€”itā€™s ensuring all students have a fair shot. This ruling sets us back. #EducationEquity #CivilRights

Tr*mp is shutting down at midnight tonight the federal website for ordering free COVID tests (four per order). I just ordered fourā€”canā€™t be easier. Last call. ------------------ covidtests.gov Please share

How about that. projects.propublica.org/elon-musk-do...

This is really serious, everyone. Postal workers are fighting back against an unlawful attack on our public Postal Service that's brewing in the White House. The first thing you can do to help is make a call. It's the first step in a long fight. #SaveThePostalService #SaveTheUSPS #HandsOffMyMailElon

For decades, the US government has painstakingly kept American science #1 globallyā€”and every facet of American life has improved because of it. The internet? Flu shot? Ozempic? All grew out of federally-funded research. Now all that's being dismantled. 1/ www.technologyreview.com/2025/02/21/1...

ā€œā€¦every major technological transformation in the US, from electric cars to Google to the iPhone, can trace its roots back to basic science research once funded by the federal government.ā€ šŸŒšŸ§Ŗ

For all the USPS's faults, Americans have to realize: It's one of the best postal services in the world, even after being kneecapped by DeJoy. Fight for our postal service, guys. I know I will. It is an essential public good.

JD Vance owns AcreTrader, an app that lets wealthyā€”often foreignā€”investors buy up U.S. farmland. Guess whoā€™s deliberately tanking farm economies so JD and his billionaire tech buddies can scoop it up for pennies. civileats.com/2024/09/18/j...

I suspect weā€™re going to be hearing more stories about failing farmers having their land bought for cheepā€”itā€™s not a coincidence. Is this why USAID was cutā€”to make way for billionaires?! Watch til the end and keep an eye on national parklands too. šŸ§µ

I've never seen so many mobilizations, rallies and actions, honestly. They're happening pretty constantly, in cities but also in small towns and in every single state. They're not getting tons of coverage, but they're happening, and they're growing. Join one, or start one, you're not alone in this.

ā€œā€¦we should not expect judges to reach unconventional resultsā€¦And we should really temper our expectations as cases are appealed to a very conservative Supreme Courtā€“one that has delivered Donald Trump some signature wins.ā€ In other words, with THIS SCOTUS, we must very carefully pick our fights.

I know there's dozens of things to contact reps about every single day, but today please contact them about keeping USPS independent. Privatizing USPS would be devastating for so many reasons, but personally it would destroy my small business if I can't have affordable/accessible service. 5calls.org
