Back in college I asked a trusted professor for advice on going into higher ed. He said it was difficult for the field he taught. When I then informed him that I was considering English and not his field, he just laughed. I decided not to go into higher ed.
not to do earnest reply to a joke post but a friend asked jonny and i to talk to some friends daughter about "opportunities in journalism" and we were both like well perhaps if we had jobs in journalism we could help someone else find one lol
I used to train young people to become journalists. One thing I told them was not to quote anyone who said "Follow your dreams" but, rather, to ask them for an example of how they'd done that and use the answer, not the empty cliche.
52 years after getting my journalism degree I can safely say Iβm glad there were few writing jobs for women in 1972. I never could have done whatβs now required to succeed in that world.
I ask if they have family money and if they do Iβm like, go for it. If not, still go for it but be ready to jump ship before the credit card debt gets too deep
