I can’t escape the feeling the dotnet team is eager to build a proper application climbing the ladder out of the trenches of building just the tools for it. It’s really good this is done, although I personally have yet to find a use case for Aspire.

I’m implementing it in our projects because it reduces the F5 time. Much easier for a dev to get up and running if they don’t need to set up all the dependencies manually.

But I have very few dependencies- a deliberate architecture choice. I only have a local db (that is fully seeded automatically at startup in dev env) and storage emulator as deps.

I think a good use case would be anywhere you might consider using docker compose, you could instead use Aspire.

I will say though the centralisation of logs and the opentelemetry make insights into your app easier too.

Yes perhaps the logging is nice but I don’t see the use case for me for Docker as well. Simple architecture = simple needs for setting up a dev environment

Yeah it’s not a fit for every situation. I have some projects where the Aspire tooling would outnumber the actual projects.

What about allowing integrations to add metadata that would show up on the lines of the graph? For example an integration where different Aspire resources handle different HTTP resource paths. I think it would make the graph more useful to see what the purpose of the connections were.

You can use the standalone Aspire Dashboard as alternative to other Otel Dashboard.

It's really easy to setup and deploy. It also requires no database so it's fast and works well for small/internal deployments.
