The phenomenon of “leftist language policing” is 99% a product of centrists whining about it constantly. I almost never encounter it in real life and requests for vocabulary updates are typically non-binding guidelines for formal written documents.

As far as I can recall, all the words I’ve removed from my vocabulary (like the r-word, “gay” as an insult, etc.) haven’t been because someone yelled at me, but because people asked generally for folks to stop, I thought about it for a bit, and decided saying those words wasn’t a hill worth dying on

i was quoting 'crank yankers,' doing an incredibly offensive voice and my mentally handicapped aunt was nearby. she didn't hear me, but i saw her and i stopped in the middle of what i was saying. my heart broke that day. i knew i was the bad guy.

That’s just IMO. The bossy little lawn gnome that raised me would’ve sent me into the next century for disrespecting people.She was raised by Quakers one of which was employed before the year 1900 & she held an elected office. I once when I was a young teen said "Spag" in front of my Mum.....after she gave me the slipper and grounded me for a month and told me about her disabled brother who died when he was young, I never said it again. Rightly so.
