To me, any console that doesn't have native HDMI output in any of its official versions is retro. So basically, everything pre PS3 / 360.

I've recently taken to emulating PS3 games and wow so many of them were truly held back by the hardware. MGS4 feels brand new. Asura's Wrath no longer in slow motion - I hope there was a more legit way to get these games going on modern systems but I think for a long time this will be the only way.

Yeah, enough time has passed - although weirdly, I don't consider PS3 retro YET, because it still receives support from Sony. I do consider 360 retro tho

Two things:

1- My rule of thumb is more than 15 years for it to be retro.
2- I just learned the discontinued the PS3 in 2015 almost 10 years after its initial release. Which is wild.

They likely are to some people. I don't think Retro is a definitive cutoff. It is mainly in the eye of the beholder. I'd also say that pulling out a PS3 to play a game is pretty Retro.

Personally, not yet. In 2-3 years there is more of a chance I would consider them to be retro. As of now though, I cut it off at Xbox and older.

When I signed up for Twitch, 15 year old games were from the 90’s and 10 year old games were early PS2 (one generation back).

Apply that standard today and FF13 is a retro game.

So, yeah. Sadly. We’re getting old.

By the textbook definition, they could be considered retro. Subjectively, I don't really consider them retro because they don't give me the same retro/nostalgia factor that sixth gen consoles and older do. I wouldn't care if someone streamed them in the retro category though.

Whether or not something is "retro" feels like a very individual experience to me. Even from the 7th Gen consoles, Wii and DS I consider retro, but that's mostly because I grew up with them. I didn't have my first Xbox 360 and PS3 until adulthood.
