I briefly played some of FF11 a couple years ago to say I at least checked it out for my FF marathon. From what little I played I could clearly tell that this game has such a tight knit and passionate community, it was really cool to see!

This may sound weird but sometimes the flaws of a game are just as enticing to me as the successes. I love a grindy and somewhat challenging MMO; I used to play Ragnarok Online religiously! I've been really tempted to try FFXI in its current form, but it's a pretty intimidating commitment.

I played it for ~6 years but moved on right after they raised the cap to 80. Felt like a very different game after that.

Indeed, back in the day, shared struggles made every battlefields done an achievement for yourself and for people helping you.

Hearing Distant Worlds at the end of CoP, thinking of these shared struggles with my community, is a definite moment in gaming for me.

I never played FF11, but I learned that it's an old styled MMO like Everquest which I played from 1999-2003, and everything about those types of games was difficult. While it could be frustrating/grindy, it created communities and friendships that weren't possible in today's easy MMOs.

Yup it really forged some friendships because the games were so stupid hard and obtuse, you had to learn to REALLY work together to progress.
