I already hated Funko Pop anyway.

I kid you not, @itch.io has been taken down by Funko of "Funko Pop" because they use some trash "AI Powered" Brand Protection Software called Brand Shield that created some bogus Phishing report to our registrar, iwantmyname, who ignored our response and just disabled the domain

I mean, Itch is just an store, not an dev. They were around for some time before the AI crazy. They probably just dont know or dont have resources to enforce a ban to it (people dont fully understand how hard it is to find AI created stuff and deleted, its easier to auto-tag and filter it to user)

I'm not same people don't buy them I've just personally never seen someone by them. It's weird to me because other stuff that are popular items like that I see people purchasing all the time. It's almost like they have a secret time that they go and buy them. The secret Funko Pop Society.

I don't know if it's still open, but I know of a Funko Pop store. Ninety percent of what they sell is used Funko Pops, so it's definitely some weird subculture.

Yeah I don't know of any place that mostly sells them but the place is around me that sell them tend to have a lot like entire walls. They definitely change from time to time so they must be selling them.

I have a few, but never really seen how they can be as popular as they seem, given the sheer amount that never seem to shift from shelves, or the amount that ends up at dumps/landfills.
Does bug me that some games/shows never do other figures, because they can just give funko a licence instead.

I just wish more companies would make actual figures for said characters, rather than just giving funko access to them. The amount I've seen where Funko is the only 'official' way to get anything other than keychains, or posters.

Its in purpose, you cant DCMA things that are bearly close to original IP, therefore they can make billions if Gandalf without naming it Gandalf, what happened is that companies realised it was a losing battle and just land leanse the IP.

That's where offbrand comes in. Unless it's merch of some small indie stuff or people I actually like, I have no problem with offbrand. Big companies shouldn't have this much monopoly on a product.

I like a few of them sadly. I must have brainrot. But I overall don't love Funko as a merch/collectables company as a majority of their products are lazy copy pastes or just lazy jobs. I remember when they gained the fnaf license and it just got worse from there.
