How is this better for the costumer? Chrome i already based on open source and it has a good competition from chromium browsers as Edge, arc, brave etc
It's not just about delivery either. Without Chrome and the signed-in user base that comes with it, Google's future gets much tougher to predict as cookie deprecation really takes hold in the next couple of years.
Isn't AOSP, or barebones Android, already free from Google services? Android is not reliant on Google services, the individual manufacturers are the ones who decide this lol
This doesn't make sense at all. Who else is going to be willing to pay to maintain some of the most sophisticated software if not Google? They surely profit from ads, but it is one of the few ways that make sense to offset the high cost of maintaining this infrastructure.
I’d argue all parts have cozied up in some way. Tim Cook kept in regular contact after 2020. Because he wants to keep import tariff exemptions in the future. And I presume Google does similar things.
Every big business tries to make nice with people who might be president, but there are different factions of the tech industry and one (venture capital) has gotten close to Trump and thrown him tons of money, and those people do not have aligned interests with Google.
I wonder how would this even work if it got sold. Like would someone else take over the development of chromium? And would Google be allowed to fork it again and make a new browser?
And Chrome OS, and parts of Android also use Chromium. And most proprietary features require Google services to work. I really cannot see how this would work out well.
This is honestly more concerning to how Mozilla will make money going forward than Chrome. The VAST majority of Mozilla's income is generated from Google paying them to be their exclusive search engine.
Privatlee then ddg have been my goto search engines. For the past couple months I've been running the Brave search engine, in Firefox, on my desktop. Works fine.
The problem is, companies most of the time don't get market share by providing the best product but by cheating.
Chrome is much worse than other browsers. It was good in the beginning, they used lots of tática to make it the most used browser they screwed it for profit.
The disproportionate accumulation of capital within an industry will necessarily trend towards a monopoly. This trend consolidates moneyed interests such that the only products or services offered benefit the moneyed interests. This is true ubiquitously.
I work with hardware that doesn't like Firefox so I use Cómodo Dragon for programming. Identical to Chrome, including running themes and extensions from the Chrome store.

I just can't think of many appealing prospects of who could or would buy Chrome.
I don’t get why this is a thing.
The person who uses dragon (or whatever) and ddg st work, is likely to switch to them at home. Or not
Let a thousand flowers bloom
But govts, state and federal have enormous leverage. Just don't use Google on govt devices.
Cómodo Dragon is identical to Google w/o the Spyware. Ditto Brave, edge and others.
I've not used Google for search for 25 years.

I highly recommend dragon. Free here https://www.comodo.com
Just kidding. I am pro union
But they are monopolies or cartels
They're employee collectives. They're not corporations. Unions are so important to worker's rights.
