A big thing that I've learned as I got older and enjoyed all sorts of media is this: People don't always know if they might want something until it's right in front of them. If you sneak an amazing romantic story into an action game or show, people will often enjoy that, and vice-versa

I once worked on a visual novel game where all the surveys and focus groups said that nobody wanted romance, they only wanted mystery and sci-fi.
Then 75+% of clicks in-game went to stories with explicit romantic or sexy themes.
