Yup. Local government, school district, lot of IC has conservative rules they won't budge for anything, but claim to be progressive.

I think it is all related to the anti-DEI frenzy at the federal and state level. Whether these specific actions are or will be necessary is not clear to me either. The cultural centers websites are still up but I’m not sure they will continue either.

Yeah. I'm curious more specifically what's driving it. For example, was the body federally funded in some way, and did the federal funding agency request or direct this? Or is it just a general retreat?

I am pretty certain there is no federal funding involved. The Council included Native faculty and staff, it helped recruit students and organize Native activities on campus. You have to consider the general political climate in the state as well which is very very red. Blood red.

Jesus. I have to think that one reason for all this voluntary, uncompelled compliance is that these institutions are not-too-secretly happy to toss this stuff.
