It also saddens me that kids these days have had fortnite for a total of their developmental period of life where we were able to experience a variety of good single player and multiplayer games. Local multiplayer especially.
🤷🏿♂️ I never did PSN fr fr and I still own disc based games so it wasn't really a huge issue for me. But on a larger scale of the service ceased for any reason people just screwed
The issue isn’t the games, but the service itself. We have Broforce installed on a PS4 and a PS5. The PS4 worked just fine. The PS5 wouldn’t open the game because it couldn’t validate the license. How is the better console incapable of storing the license the older model did?
Remember when Sonys PS4 entire marketing was WE HAVE OFFLINE PLAY then they slowly switched to their original idea (which was the same as Xbox) to be always online. Sony got free pass for pulling shit they blamed the other guys for.
Back in the day my roommate and I thought the Internet was down for 3 days cause our router had died. Sometimes the issue is simple User Error. Talk to an IT person.
I have all games now digital and I couldn't turn on any yesterday! There was an option to turn on offline access but it needed to be online to turn it on. So obviously only option was to turn off my new PS5 Pro.
Offline access is on by default, the only reason it wouldn’t work is if you have multiple consoles set up and you’re trying to play your accounts games on a secondary console through game sharing instead of on your main one.
I had to enable mine, but I did it like a week after I bought the ps5 after my internet was down for like an hour. I didn't like that I had to prove it had the right to play something i bought.
I was playing Nintendo Switch and I was happy that I didn't need to go online for games, even single player, it makes no sense that games that aren't live service still require internet. Something license authentication something...
it’s horrible. playstation profits are skyrocketing and they can’t even fix their servers in time. i couldn’t even play the monster hunter wilds beta for most of the weekend
Buy primarily physical console games. As long as a console platform supports physical releases without the need for Internet to install/play I'll support those studios/publishers and that platform.
If they don't, well I consider PC DRM free options for games.
I've been gaming long before online gaming existed, but I never play online games. I play against myself (high score, best time), not some Adderall-overdosed teen that plays 12 hours a day.
I’ve unfortunately sold most of my physical games when I moved to the south of France with my partner. I thought it was a smart move then…extra money for new games..
I really regret thy now :/ also my gaming shelf looks sad af now 😂
PS exclusives like god of war and Horizon will require a PSN account to be played on PC. I find that super odd, I mean when you buy a single player game, a PSN nor a internet connection should be required.
Fully agree. When you play like Bioware or some Konami games on the PS they want you to log on to your online account. Thankfully you can just skip that. What's the point of importing the game to PC if you have to be on PSN to play. That's stupid AF!
Maybe, the only one I know about that currently is Helldivers 2, but I remember having gotten the message on multiple games that I had to be connected to the internet over the years.
Really?
I thought the predatory monetization, casino-like content and the fact the game will disappear from your library we're actually enough of a case. PSN going down is really nothing
Honestly, there's no way around PSN these days. Even a single-player offline game on disc will still need to phone home for licence checks and patches...
It's going to be real fun when Sony eventually pulls the plug on the PS4
It wasn't even online games. Even single player games were offline because their licenses have to be checked online each and every time you want to play them.
Along with the arguments "there's no need in the first place" and "inevitably they will be shutdown no matter how successful and the games will be entirely unplayable by people who bought them without emulation/piracy", which are also very good arguments.

and download your game you buy

Nothing changed with this PSN outage.
And all 4 of my controllers are taken. ^_^

Maybe if platform downtime becomes intolerably expensive due to lawsuits games will stop depending on it?
I imagine the terms of using the game include giving up your right to do this though.
If your game is not on GOG, then...

This has the detrimental effect of me missing a bunch of quite good games.
😭
On the other hand, I already have a lot of games in my backlog. And I use GOG Galaxy because it's convenient, not because it's mandatory.
