My favorite is when Californians talk about how we need to carefully consider the impact of building new apartments on the school system, as if cities aren’t closing elementary schools left and right because there aren’t enough kids to keep them open.

The reason why it’s so frustrating when people say “we can’t build more housing until we create all the additional infrastructure for it” is that this sort of development never proceeds in a straightforward, linear fashion. This isn’t Sim City.

Their city council preferred a giant vacant decaying mall in the city over approving a new housing project
Needed for sprawl, but also clearly overbuilt for boomtimes when young families could afford to live here
