Very efing portable, I had a separate bag for the gameboy, spare batteries and my 5 games alone, always thought I'd have had to buy a trolley for that, plus mum wouldn't allow this monster home.
I don't particularly remember the speakers, screen, or buttons doing much but it had a screen light which was the only way you were going to be able to play on those nighttime drives.
if i were to play on a gameboy for prolonged periods of time it would really strain my eyes, of course i can only speak for myself tho and sadly never owned the magnifying glass myself, did play with it tho and it was actually pretty cool
I had one with lights in it - it would chew through the batteries though, but it meant I could continue to play Batman until the early hours of the morning under the covers! 🤫
Reminds me of designing “high tech” watches when I was a kid in the 1980s. They had built in TVs, radios, calculators, and other stuff I can’t remember, but trust me, they had the works!
My old doodles looked a lot more like this than an Apple Watch.
I actually loved this thing. The screen looked great through that magnifier (with light!) and Game Boy games’ stereo audio channel separation was no joke. But I used it without the button panel part; that bit wasn’t an improvement.
A deep cut, both for Star Trek, AND Matt Frewer roles. When I was watching TNG again a few years ago I got to that episode again I was like “Oh, it’s that guy! From Orphan Black, and Eureka! And about a million and six other things!”
I have fond memories of playing Mortal Kombat and Kirby in the back seat at night with this bad boy for SEVERAL HOURS (it was definitely like 2 at the most lol)

The joystick and buttons felt stiff and awkward and sometimes it's hard to get any power from it because it uses the same batteries your Gameboy uses.
I'm amazed I didn't need glasses until recently.
The original Gameboy murdered batteries just fine on its own.
I was 13 so don’t ‘come
At me’.
I know because I have it...
Ow.
Yeah, I remember that... thing.
But what if we had that amazing music in stereo?
The Handy subwoofer, unfortunately, never made it out of production.
Exactly.
Another 5 lb electromagnetic brick to allow you to see, hear and play it 9% better.
I introduce you to “THE HANDY BOY”

No, I'm not joking.
(bonus points if you get the reference)
Right?
