Right......and I doubt anyone in this western world would ever, ever volunteer to do what is the right thing to do, just not our nature. Too much individualism, Calvinism, and crazy amounts of greed!

I believe most people, if they knew the full facts, would do what is needed if it was felt we were all in it together. Should wealthy high consumers have the right to trash our common home just because they can afford to? Survival may require very different rules.

Richest 10% are those with income/net assets of around £60,000 and above. They create 1/3 of emissions through "lifestyle" choices. Globally, people and political systems need a climate reality check to make the difference needed; his point just illustrates the impact of "Western" choices.

And sadly the wealthy control the information. Prof Kevin also points out if the richest 10% reduced consumption to that of the average European, emissions would drop by a third without any other change. Lifestyles of the rich, and the aspiration to be rich, are huge obstacles to climate progress.

Again, understand this. My point is that we all need to change (at least 2 billion of us that have autos, fly, have home heating). Even if emissions did drop by 33%, that is just not enough. Drop of 70% would buy us some time, maybe even 10 years.

Other problem is definition of "rich". Trust me, there many who think someone making more than 100K per year are rich, and even those who will think 50K is actually rich. Would guess top 10% in the west are well above 200K per year, but even that amount may not be what it seems in real terms.
