Yeah I'm thinking if we're exporting commodities by ship through our own rather than American ports, Halifax is going to get a boost.

It's *huge* and *really* well located.

It also has a CNR rail connection and can handle container ships at greater than Panamax sizes.

Vancouver will also probably see a similar boom. I'm not sure about the Lakers, but we'll see.

Alberta oil has to go through Vancouver if it can’t go to the U.S. There’s no all-Canada pipeline to an East Coast port.

In general in global shipping you want to get your goods from origin onto the cheapest mode of travel as quickly as possible.

Pipelines are cheaper than water is cheaper than rail is cheaper than trucks.

There’s no Canadian pipeline from the Alberta oil sands to the east that doesn’t go through the U.S., so shale oil will have to go to Vancouver and go through the Panama Canal to get to Europe.
