I'm sure the jingoistic Gammonati will be peeing themselves with excitement over this but, really, it's a bloody silly idea from all points of view. The conscripts don't want to be there, the Forces don't really want them, and the tax payer doesn't want to pay for it.

The Directive was sent out by William Beveridge. Any single man whose employment was terminated by the outbreak of war was to be denied benefit and directed to join the army
