I think the problem with Twitter became that the algorithm wasn't accurately reflecting the feeds that we had curated for ourselves over many years because Elmo had a thumb on the scale.

Totally. The decline in user experience accounts for many many things and changes for different people. But I think generally, the annoying ads (which are harder to close out of and saying you aren’t interested doesn’t keep them out of your feed) and sideways algorithm makes for a far worse time

Similar tastes and the people you don’t tend to agree on will fall off as you engage with context X and ignore content Y. So migrating from Twitter for any host of reasons you may have doesn’t reflect a fear of “openness” - and obviously Twitter is hardly an open forum in its current state - but 2/

Rather it’s a reflection of the degradation of the platform. Perhaps you get inundated with shitty people and replies. Maybe you think the verification program amplifying poor content has killed the news gathering utility. Or maybe the screen size video game ads just make every login insufferable 3/

I don’t encounter much hateful content on Twitter. I’ve curated a good enough feed that it’s generally fine for me. But the overall user experience has tanked in recent years and to be able to login and not get dumped into the for you feed or get 90000 evony ads is a huge win

In short. Social media should be what you make it and want it to be. If a platform isn’t going to subject you to miserable content or experiences, don’t go in there anymore. Go somewhere you’ll enjoy!
