Ahh yes, I remember it well, the day I learned this lesson. My players decided the best course of action was to burrow their way into a stronghold with their shovels and pickaxes. 10/10 no notes 🤣

In a class of six, two classmates made a TTRPG for their final exam (Masters degrees are amazing). After one of the DMs told me, "We actually spent a few hours trying to predict what you would do." One of my favourite compliments.

I once had a player just flat out refuse to put down a weapon while surrounded by guards supported by fucking griffon calvary and I had to break roleplay to be like, “These guys have no reason not to kill you and the entire party if you don’t disarm” and she was usually the voice of reason!

Session prep as the DM became SO much easier once I learned not to try and anticipate things

This is what the baddies have, this is what they're after, this is what theyre willing to do to get it

Those 3 things let me react to what ever the players come up with rather than guessing what they'll do
