The million and one largely unneeded and unwanted ways that AI (specifically LLMs) have been integrated into an assortment of services

Fake FB accounts, Google AI summaries, generated YT videos, etc. Very little return but massive investment -> a "bubble"

I could see a lot of western tech immediately shrinking away from genAI once it's no longer 'their thing' and have it mostly shrivel up and die in that sector. Move on to the next grift and paint this one in a negative and faintly xenophobic light.

Might not kill it, but it'd be a big blow.

much more likely is that this is just a gamechanger moment in terms of approach and it'll be recouped in a year. the level of efficiency shown to be possible means that there'll be more of it once its studied.
