As someone who dabbles in theory sometimes, i often think of the authoritarian personality.
A person might have progressive ideas, but an authoritarian upbringing keeps them in that restrictive, hierarchal mindset. If they don’t let go of this personality trait, they are vulnerable to cults f.ex
