On one hand, I miss having a ferret. On the other, I have WAY too many small things that one would inevitably steal without investing a crapton of effort into ferret-proofing.
I had a pet ferret in rural Georgia in the mid 80's, when I was a young teen. They were illegal as pets, as they were considered threats to the poultry industry.
Mine was female, and you couldn't get them fixed. Ferrets go into heat twice year, and they don't go out of it unless they mate. It can kill them. My father found out that a vet in a neighboring county would give her a shot to stop it.
That said, ferrets are like cats on crack. And they love to steal and hoard stuff. Mine was named Precious. Or Vicious, depending on her mood. Cool animals.
