And the lawsuits haven’t been filed yet, and Congress is completely silent because the Republicans are complicit in the illegality and the Democrats are too busy trying to decide which battles to pick (hint: FIGHT THEM ALL!!!)
“Surely the Congress will be forced to act if this reported correctly!” (someone whispers off screen) “What’s that now? Congress is saying rules are for suckers?”
Honestly, the administration has some constitutional legs to stand on by arguing prosecutorial discretion, etc. I think this is bad policy, but my attack would be "Trump wants to let banks rip you off."
The impoundment stuff is *clearly* illegal. The civil service stuff is vulnerable on contractual and procedural grounds. I don't see how the courts can rule "The Admin is *required* to open an investigation into Chase Bank" though.
Agreed. The agency has to exist. If they exist on paper and just punch their time cards for 4 years though that would be legal I believe. It's bad policy, and that's what Dems should focus on.
For sure it’s weaker and neutered under Rs. But it’s flatly illegal to simply eliminate it without Congress. They’re trying to do it that way because they don’t have the votes
I don’t know about how anyone else thinks about MSM, but they don’t seem to be doing the job of real journalism. It’s almost like they’re on one side only.
USAid, EPA, CFPB, etc. Each of these agencies needs a Brian Driscoll (FBI). That person will get fired, but everyone else at their agency will benefit.
This is a pivotal issue. Dems need to be hammering on why Republicans are gleeful about destroying an agency that has saved consumers tens of billions of dollars. Shriek it: this ain't about fraud and waste. It's about removing barriers to right wing and tech bro theft
This is the fault of the Democrats. They have not made this the crisis it is. Why isnt someone holding daily briefing update like Cuomo during the pandemic. Capture the nations attention. This soon becomes a question of whether this is ineptitude or complicity. Are there donors saying "let him do it
The media and academia are selling us out to fascism. What they don’t understand is that isn’t going to keep them safe at all. Had they been heroic I would’ve cared. Fascist collaborators are Fascists. Actions have consequences.
To call this “the reason” is to ascribe more power to the press than it has. I am skeptical that if the media were to call these actions “illegal” that the administration would stop performing them. The papers eventually called Trump’s statements “lies” and he didn’t become any more truthful.
@warren.senate.gov, what are we gonna do about this? Ain’t no way the legions of the orange-hued dimwit will be permitted to uproot an organization that acts as a bulwark for ordinary Americans against predatory financial institutions.
The headline writers at the NYT certainly aren't protecting us or themselves. They will only start calling these illegal acts illegal long after it doesn't matter what the NYT says. Pathetic. It's what happens when you have to run everything through Legal.
It's because they've been conditioned to act that way by democratic centrists over the last 25 years to preserve decorum while those on the actual honest to god left were screaming at liberals to do anything. But, here we are and liberals finally waking up, far too late
Then the murder of Elon Musk and the Felon is legal. If the rule of law is gone, there are no laws. I'm not paying for shit anymore. And I think we should start plotting the war. Lawless land is what they want. Ok, sounds ok to me. Rich people don't know how to fight. They can only hire security.
I want the press to do a better job too, but pretty sure it would be “permitted” regardless of how it’s reported, until someone with actual power is able to stop it.
People keep forgetting that all of these jobs they're cutting are things that exist because Congress put in a law requiring it. This isn't stuff people made up for fun, these are actual laws passed by Congress that need to be implemented. You don't get to ignore it for fun.
When you ask urself "y aren't Dems holding a daily update, like what Cuomo did during the pandemic and making this crisis what it is" at a certain point it becomes clear, this isnt ineptitude, it's complicity. Their donors are saying "let's hold off bc I don't really mind musk cutting this spending"
The media, the algorithm, and the history we once knew is owned by far right. Make no mistake, this is a coup and you need to be on the correct side of history for the world. Ps read https://guardian.co.uk for real news
Everyone should be boycotting the NYT, especially civil servants who they keep begging to interview. Boycott all the media that caved to him. Let them always be days behind on breaking news. Harm their viewership. Conservatives don’t watch them at all, why are we still giving them views?
They’ve got the House & Senate & Presidency & lots of court judges: they could do this legally but instead are using their power ONLY TO AVOID ACCOUNTABILITY.
PSA: Need to act quickly. Adolf Hitler became chancellor of Germany in 1933 and declared himself the sole leader of the country in 1934. This process took about one year.
Much of the legacy media I think has been bending over backwards towards Trump is because they don't want to be accused of "liberal bias" and be seen as fair and unbiased. But at what point should they realize that bending is only making them irrelevant in not helping but hurting journalism?
Legacy media does not want to be sued by Trump for hundreds of millions. They also probably don't enjoy the prospect of death threats. Not giving them a pass, just saying the Ministry of Fear never sleeps.
The NYT announced in 2022 that it was going to do more to appeal to conservatives, and that's what it's doing. The WaPo switched out its editor in chief for a Rubert Murdoch lackey, and now the WaPo is much more conservative in what it covers and how it covers it.
I mention this because I don't think this is just the usual attempt to achieve a sense of fairness through neutrality that creates false equivalence, but rather is the result of a deliberate shift in editorial direction that is more biased towards conservatives.
I don't subscribe to both papers and I don't watch any of the main networks (NBC, CBS, CNN, ABC) but if the FCC is trying to investigate a local station for questioning the administration's motives, at what point should they start waking up and stop catering to the administration?

The press doesn’t determine legality. Our laws do.
It’s illegal. The people breaking the law have been already notified.
These last days proved I was wrong.
Right?
They refuse to report on illegal behavior by people that would retaliate, thus encouraging further illegal behavior.

This is corruption.
It's a crime spree, led by a criminal.
