So apparently the AP Human Geography site is culling some of its "daily videos" for class use. A teacher tells me the videos on redlining and white flight are gone. In the screenshot below, you can see the Daily Videos start with no. 2 (no. 1 on this page was redlining, and it's gone now).

What galls me is that no one's making them do this. Deep down in their shriveled little souls, they just... wanted to. I don't care if they've constructed some elaborate justification about federal funding or avoiding trouble or whatever. You don't get to act like a racist but for Good Reasons.

While I'm sure some people falling in line are eager collaborators, I think it helps to remember that people think if they can keep their head down, they'll be spared long enough to have a space to do good things. That doesn't work, but it happens again and again in history because of human nature.

True enough. That said, I lost a job because I wasn’t willing to keep my head down during a spree of unethical purges. Admittedly, the stakes are much higher when it’s the government. But I’ve been there on a smaller scale, and I can confirm you sleep better if you hold onto your soul.

One of the ways you combat this tendency is with a promise to absolutely break people who do this should you ever return to power. Alter their risk-benefit analysis. Deserters get hung. That kind of thing.

heard the other day about a friend's company eliminating affinity groups (like sponsorships to visit, say, a Women in STEM conference) on the logic that since they compete for gov't grants yada yada. like, you have to know you're a pathetic worm if that is how you react to this.
