First step. Canada Post need to be firmly reinstated as non profit public service. Get rid of those neocon bean counters on the board. Then the rejigging for current and future needs can be implemented.

The business model is broken and needs to be modified.
Near as I can tell, the union is stuck in the past, and is refusing any changes.
Start will residential mail delivery... it should be once or twice a week at most. It is ludicrous to be daily for just junk mail.

“Near as (you) can tell” is not saying much. The union WANTS change, has been trying to convince CP to look to the future for more than a decade now. Canada Post has done absolutely nothing to stem this tide and has spent more than $4-billion in the last five years to watch…

I don't disagree. However, change is hard. If Residential Mail gets delivered once a week, as is should, that also means less delivery work, and therefore fewer employees.
I suspect that is a huge sticking point in negotiations.

Losing jobs is always a huge sticking point. But the Corporation isn’t even suggesting once or twice a week mail delivery. Remember, YOU may not need daily delivery but millions of others in this country rely on it.

I disagree. Businesses, sure, daily mail. Residential, definately not. Parcel delivery is where Canada Post should focus.

The logic for keeping Daily residential paper mail is similar logic to keeping Blockbuster Video stores open. Both were great services in the past, but no longer viable.

For the employer to reject CUPW's request for binding arbitration is completely unfair, particularly their reasoning that that process will take a long time. Clearly the process is already taking too long. Arbitration can speed that up!

Why should CP workers get better wages/benefits when the parcels that actually come to my house are delivered by gig workers legally "contracted out to" by the likes of Amazon et al. ?

Except that making "perma-gig" work illegal is a provincial matter as it falls under the ESA.

Which goes back to the problem with the NDP. They have no idea how Canada functions as a series of governments.

Ironically I voted NDP provincially in Ontario in 2025 because Crombie is a conservative.

If the Ontario NDP really want my "actual" support they could realize that provincial governments matter and propose bold new changes to improve our lives instead of throwing money at the status quo.
