The European Union and China are now starting negotiations to abolish EU tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles.

This is a major strategic failure for the United States.

EVs are just better cars! The only reason I have one and not two is that I tow a camper. If the new scout truck has 250 mile range while towing then any excuse not to have all EVs is over.

I would snap up one of those Chinese EV's in a heartbeat if I could, but I live in the United States, where both major parties, albeit for different reasons, would rather blow up the country than ever allow me to do so.

Chinese car manufacturer BYD is selling a series of luxury hybrid SUVs that cost over $150,000. The beast even can float in a lake and sort of operate for up to 30 minutes while partially submerged.

China has moved up the manufacturing & tech value chain.

Republicans believe that they can reject modernity. No EVs, no wind, no solar, no regulations, no food safety, no consumer protection. And maybe they can do that, but only in the US. The rest of the world will advance without us, leaving us behind and increasingly irrelevant.

The notion that government can't pick winners and losers because it always makes the wrong choice is patently false. China is going to eat our lunch because they heavily subsidize what they need and as a result have robust industry and manufacturing.

Tesla generates almost a third of its revenue from Europe. Even assuming they will except Tesla from tariffs, eliminating tariffs from Chinese EVs will make Tesla into a Trabant trying to sell itself as as for the price of a luxury car.

Elon did nazi that coming.
