One other thing about tariffs. What if no one can import products because the selling price will be too high? So they don't pay tariffs. Consumers stop buying. Importers stop paying tariffs. Govt does not get its magic tariff money.

Tariffs are a way to funnel wealth from the poor to the billionaires increasing wealth inequality. Tariffs are very regressive, income tax is progressive, and the tax cuts for billionaires are extremely progressive. It's terrible policy.
