A rise in outbreaks tends to be linked to lower vaccination communities, including but not limited to certain religious communities. Since incubation can average 10-12 days and measles is airborne and highly transmissible, outbreaks are hard to control. The best control is high vaccination rates.

Few have died in recent years, due to the virtual elimination of measles through popn-wide vaccination. As the level of vaccinated drops, more cases will occur. In the US, roughly 1 in 5 cases are hospitalized (not due to quarantine as RFK Jr has said). The death in Texas was the first in 10 years.

Measles is one of the most contagious diseases and can be especially dangerous in babies and young children. There are several complications that can occur, including encephalitis, blindness, and pneumonia. This is why medical professionals recommend the MMR vaccine combo which includes measles.

I know some parents believe they can wait and see if there are symptoms and then isolate them. But the problem is this: measles can be infectious four or five days before symptoms appear. A child can infect many others at school or in daycare in that time. Vaccination is the recommended protection.

I would not conclude that. The map is a little misleading in that specific communities have cases, not the entire "blue" province. I'd prefer seeing a county map for measles. But measles infections, known or unknown, can certainly spread quickly from those "seeded" communities.

This map is NOT correct. It shows NB measles free when in fact there is a large outbreak.
