This male Eastern Towhee popped up from the bushes and perched for a moment before heading to a treetop to sing. These sparrows like to rummage for food in dense undergrowth, which can make them a hard bird to find, even with their striking colors.

Actually every spring one of them tries to enter my house & repeatedly smashes into my windows. Even when I put brown butchers paper to cover up the reflection. Always the same species.
We have one this spring that loves to peck at its own reflection in the corner of our front window. He's not even deterred by our toddler tapping the glass - brave bird!
