Eventually gambling ads will be banned or heavily curtailed like the tobacco industry but the apps themselves will remain in tact. It’s just a matter of when

We've set up an industry where there is almost no lobbying pressure to bring something like that about and two billion dollar industries (gambling and media in general) stood up to oppose it.
For now. A blowback is coming the question is whether or not the liberal state will be equipped to adapt and preserve the system. There is already non trivial support for curbing advertising
Every other broadcast has “can’t miss” or “lock” language, I have no doubt their internal algorithms target problem gamblers, I am certain their age gating is a sieve etc
And the unstated celebrity advertising like when they highlight some million dollar Drake bet. That's definitely against the law and they're doing fuck all about it.
A key part of the business model of most books is to kick sharp bettors off the platform. They typically limit them (reduce their allowed bet size to pennies) rather than outright ban. The premise of their commercials is a big lie, being a consistent “winner” is against their rules!
Also, consider how cynical it is that they can take one second to limit specific users, and they only use this to target profitable bettors. They have all the tools imaginable to identify addicts, but they want those guys to bet as much as they feel like
I would have believed that 20 years ago. Now? Idk, man. This feels like how we've been doing jack shit on climate change and health care reform for decades.
Seems like an environment ripe for private Synanon style self-help groups, though.

That seems very tough.
The things that need to go as much as the advertising is the sign up bonuses. Makes it so easy to hook novice users, and should be easy to ban.
I don't see what they're doing that's against the law just wildly unethical.
