That stuck me too - that cyclists would use it because it wouldn't be a "pleasant" commute. If it's a direct route then this is exactly where bike routes are needed! Far better than being stuck *on* the dual carriageway. (Though I don't know the area well enough to know if it is in fact useful).

It's a recurring theme that people who don't cycle, think it's a weekend hobby and cannot see it as a method of transport for many.

All dual carriageways should have cycleways alongside.

I'd love to have a bike path alongside our local dual carriageway in Carmarthenshire, would be an absolute gamechanger...

there was going to be one alongside HS2 that got dropped fairly early - but every transport project should allow a couple of meters for a bike lanes. It would be do easy.

And I'm willing to bet will never be linked into a network of active travel routes because the council doesn't believe in Active Travel as a means of transport.
A shared route next to a dual carriageway is pretty much the best we have in Newport afterall!

The bike path along A34 Melrose Way (Alderley Edge bypass) isn't bad but it's hard to take advantage of it without detouring, and the bypass itself isn't a dual, just an overbuilt A-road.

The a555 south of Manchester is one such road, and is always busy with people walking and cycling. It's noisy but very useful. And when it floods and is shut to cars, you can still use it (and not get wet).
