That “transfer” is very unusual.

Something like Porto only bought 25% of his rights, and have the option to buy more chunks at set prices at set times.

Never seen a full explanation but something made Chelsea and Porto wary of buying 100% of him upfront. Presumably a bad medical?

I assumed it was down to ffp and how much Chelsea wanted for Gallagher so the price was done on that, a bit like Torres/Carroll back in the day

Chelsea's PR briefing was 'medical issue' but then that they were still willing to offer him a contract, just at reduced terms. How much we should trust that briefing is another matter.

The reason I've seen reported the most, is that Chelsea tried to change the terms for image right at the last minute. But dont know what was the original source for that rumour.

Ornstein reported that the deal was off due to ''major problem finalising the 20-year-old’s contract''.

Genuinely don't want to speculate on it for fear of getting it wrong. Just know that ATM and Porto often have complicated agent dealings and unparsing what's actually going on from the outside is basically impossible.

That’s fair. It seemed such a done deal with Chelsea, but then out of the blue it switched to Felix.

I kept waiting for an explanation, but weeks and months passed and it never came.

Some say it was image rights, but the lack of reporting is glaring for how much news transfers generate
