I used to consider this technique as something of an outsider as a candidate technology for qubits. I'm now persuaded it might be one of the best. Lukin's work was considered one of the year's breakthroughs by @physicsworld.bsky.social.

I figured it was time to tell the wider world about how noncoding RNAs have been changing the face of molecular biology over the past couple of decades. Then lo and behold, some of that work (on microRNAs) was awarded a Nobel in October.

This was a very enjoyable read. Made me think of two things. First, Gregory Radicks book "Disputed inheritance" which is really worth a read. Second, I wonder how the new science will challenge "genetic exceptionalism" and the consequent ideas that frame much of our clinical ethics.
