Most of the world always knew the United States to be an unpredictable bully with the moral compass of a jellyfish and the attention span of a squirrel.

I've long advocated for a European defense union without US participation or treaty obligations towards the US.
An argument can be made that Russia and Europe would be friendly neighbors had that been implemented immediately after the WTO disbanded.
Western triumphalism was always unlikely to create constructive relations with Russia.
And the Western pretense of respecting other countries' sovereignty and independence was never anything but a transparently self-serving lie.
I just don't see a way back for EU/U.S relations and it is going to be a painful breakup.
