The funny thing is we've actually tried that in recent history, and it didn't work out very well for anyone including the rich.
It was so bad that London - despite being at the height of its class-division era - created a municipal fire department and outlawed private fire companies.
It was the private fire brigade’s themselves that lobbied the government to create a municipal fire department. They were overworked and burdened with liability. They recognized the need for public support and the government’s role in protecting the public.
They were having to put out fires in buildings that they didn’t insure because they were near buildings that they did insure. But nobody was paying them to do that, so they figured, “Hey! We shouldn’t have to be doing this! This SHOULD BE your job!”
"In the past, Wasserman has advocated on X for lower property taxes. However, property taxes are a critical component of the LA Fire Department's budget. "
Jacquie, weighed in: 'If you find yourself tweeting for private firefighters to protect your property, you should probably question what you have become as a human being.'
It's really amazing watching some people come to terms with the fact that, when it really matters, their money can't protect them after all, and is actually worthless.
“Private” fire fighters…watch, now that it’s out there, Trump is bonkers enough that he will try to make that a “next big thing in jobs” project. Privatization of emergency public services. 🤦♀️
It started that way in the UK. Some houses still have marks on them above the door showing they had paid up for the fire service.
Frankly though it does not work because fires spread so easily. Nobody can stand by and watch a neighbour house burn as it soon may be be their own. And, well, empathy.
Maybe they can run it like private healthcare where your personal, private fire fighters dispatch can deny your request because the flames aren’t big enough or close enough.
So, even if that was a thing.. he thinks they are sitting around right now doing nothing? Or does he think he can pay them to fight fires around HIS house and leave whatever they are doing? Either way, douche.
His privilege and entitlement are preventing him from understanding that if he can pay any amount to redirect resources, someone else can swoop in and outbid him, redirect his resources, and f him over good. It’s something the rest of us have been coming to terms with as billionaires take over
Don't build out of wood. Use rock, concrete, and steel. Put a cistern under the house plumbed to sprinklers on the edge of the roof. If you can afford private firefighters, you can afford to build a fire resistant structure. Rich guys should know how to plan ahead.
If this actually happened and there was services that are for the public that the rich are now paying for. Oh man, then we got some major problems brewing with the rich.

DISGUSTING
The rich will always find a way. Because the rest of us let them.

Wasserman?! Hilarious last name!
I suggest he try it.
Will he try to negotiate a price? Not pay them?
Sooo, out of touch
