My issue is that yes unions are fundamentally great , what do we do about the corruption at the top. No one wants to talk about it. In Michigan we had top officials that were charged with skimming money and funds

Corruption will always exist as long as there's power to have. I don't think that means we should avoid giving power where it ought to be, just that we should be vigilant.

the extent to which that kind of thing is a problem is several orders of magnitude smaller than the problem of having far too little of the workforce unionized

Great question! You need to make sure you are involved with the union you are in; the positive change in the UAW union (which is what I assume you are referencing) happened because members got more involved. Also, it’s a good thing that those who were committing crimes got prosecuted—that’s ideal!
