that doesn't make sense because in Texas, the average private tuition costs more that $10k, often way more. If the money is assigned to a child, *full private school tuition* must be paid. So there will be $0 left for qualified expenses. That part is just a distraction. 2/9

The fundamentalist school mentioned in this article charges $11-$14k yearly for elementary, $17k per year for high school. Governor Abbott is claiming a lot of low income families are going to sign up for the $10k knowing they must come up with extra thousands of dollars? How? 3/9

Abbott is lying. Other than a few outliers, the voucher beneficiaries will be Texas families who *already* have enough money for private school. Many of them are wealthy. They will get wealthier. 4/9

A novelty in this year's voucher attempt is an extra $1250 for each child with disabilities who enrolls in a private school. Private schools are notorious for lacking basic accommodations for disabled students. This is because in general, they are allowed to ignore IDEA. 5/9

IDEA is the law that gives students access to a free and fair education. Including certified special education teachers and trained paraprofessionals. Staff in quantities most private school classrooms never have and never will! The extra $1250 would be absorbed by a giant tuition bill. 6/9

It will do nothing to help the family or private school teacher. Providing a fair education to students with disabilities is crucial but expensive, which is why a typical public school budgets $200k+ to do so.
The voucher scheme does nothing to address the lack of private schools in rural areas. 7/9
