Obviously not agreeing with Zuck. BUT I think the 3 friend average thing is accurate. All of my coworkers and all my non furry friends from high school including my brother and sister have... like, less than half a dozen actual close friends. Like, real friends that you talk to daily.

I have noticed that.
My dad stays pretty active with his friends, but he's a social butterfly.
My brother hardly ever sees any of his friends from college.
Keeping up with friends and staying present with them outside of co-workers isn't easy.
Life is really good at getting in the way of fun.

I think furries are a massive exception to this, but I think there's some truth there, looking at my parents they have 0 friends. They don't go anywhere that isn't alone or just the two of them. Trying to fix it with AI chatbots is idiotic. They need to go to a bar or something, not facebook.

And the death of reputation and trust! We literally replaced rational authority with popularity, everywhere, and excuse bad faith as "I am smart and can understand why they might do that". In this hypersonic meme age, "understand" cedes too much. Doing so writes other people's excuses for them!

I've thought about this a lot. I think part of the reason furries are an exception to "it's hard to make friends as an adult" is that kids suck up a huge chunk of time and furries are almost always childless. Another reason is just that the community isn't too large so it's easy to socialize

Anecdotally there's been a huge correlation between the time when it became hard to contact my non-furry college friends and when they had their first kid, and the ones who I'm still in contact with are largely the ones who are childless. (Not saying kids are bad! Just saying my experience)

Even furries with kids are well acclimated to making new friends.
There's lots of evidence to suggest the more time you spend with people, the more likely you are to find people you vibe with.
Furry is the space where you can meet similar people where those friendships grow.
Works with most hobbies.

Any hobby where you need to interact with another person will help build friendships.
Back before my local RC plane field fell apart we were doing bbq's and hanging out periodically, not just on weekends at times.
The groups fallen apart over the years as the field got closed.
