I have a sneaking feeling that it would be a blessing if the whole pile went up in smoke as long as it wasn’t rebuilt but replaced with a modern, fit for purpose parliament building.

FFS, put them all in a modern, functional building - surely there are many retail/business empty options, that can be RELATIVELY cheaply repurposed- Allow parliament to function effectively, and let a billionaire take over Westminster as a (respectful) tourist attraction!!

I've posted anywhere relevant that I'd prefer the whole estate to be turned over to National Trust.
Rebuild in centre of country next to mainline trains.
Large accommodation block of Premier Inn style suites and a nice canteen.
All constituencies get a permanent, serviced office.
End all expenses.
