Limited knowledge of algorithms here. But if that is an example it’s weak: science, species, sufficient, society, foreign, feisty, protein, seize, weird, their, etc.

Written representations of language obviously have structure and “rules” but I don’t see how this is linked to what we choose to say

Yeah it's terrible, yet it's something children have been taught for 150 years.
