What I look like right now, this being the first anniversary of not shaving and not trimming my beard. Not quite a Jewish Charles Darwin, but getting there.

If I have time, I want to go look up all of those old codings and see what the originator was. How did all of those motions become "I am overwhelmed with love" lol.
I don't think love per se has much to do with it. That's more like "I think you're so gorgeous, you make my eyes bug out of my head, and I wanna fuck my brains out with you, too."
I was born in 1970. In 1989 I worked in a bookstore and tended to the science fiction section. Your name was always there. As far as I am concerned, Mr Turtledove, you are a legend, beard or no beard.
I’m with you Harry! I stopped shaving and cutting my hair in 2019 along with drumpf’s outbreak of covid. my hair has never been longer, but i’m an old hippy that finally looks the part…
It's a wonderful idea picturing a determined mountaineer planting step after slow step going up a storm-blasted mountain to come to you sitting on a rock the top with a staff so he can ask what the world would be like if Napoleon III won the Franco-Prussian War.
Unshaven beards can work very well.
Ok…fair enough. Working outdoors in a Maine boatyard all winter taught me the value of a beard. It was not a novelty accessory, it was a necessity. Big and thick all winter, and off in the spring. Same with the head of hair. I’d never suffer with it in the summer.
I wouldn't call something I've had since 1969 except for medical reasons a novelty, but you do you. The hair up top I just ain't got. I wear a hat when it's cold. Of course, I also live in SoCal.
I’ve been thinking about your alternate civil war history novel lately. The one in which modern time-traveling South Africans come to the aid of the Confederacy. Never thought I’d live it IRL.
I could never stand it... it gets too itchy after a while :) Kudos on making it to a year. I can only dream of such a beard :D my real one is scruff, not a beard. 😞
I spontaneously shaved mine off last Friday because I saw one too many guys younger than me with gray beards that make them look like they’re 80 years old. I look 20 years younger than I did last week - (according to my wife.)
I have been bearded almost all my adult life. This latest 6-month stretch of smoothfacedness was so I could wear a good mask and do my best not to bring anything home while Laura was going through immunotherapy for colorectal cancer. (Seems to have worked [knocking wood hard].)
Absolutely a legit reason to shave the facial fur.
God help me if I wind up working a gig where full-facemask respirators are required, I won't be able to fulfill my oath not to shave until the two people who have done the most damage to America are dead and the piss runs down their gravestones
I went almost 3 years and broke down and found a good Barber to clean mine up because I was frightening children. Yours is a bet better shaped naturally so keep it going!

Meanwhile my patchy Native American beard has yet to live through this one.
Looks great! Cheers!
like take a nap, man, you got at least seven months before the suit comes back from the cleaners.

Or maybe Saruman! 🤣
Go beard.
Seriously though, you are one of my favorite authors!
(Or prophets. 'shudder')
Hair is good
Let it grow
Like it should

Thing about people who advocate against vaccinations for kids against preventable diseases because they blame their kids' autism on the vaccines?
They're pretty much just telling their autistic kids they'd rather have a dead kid than an autistic kid.
