They couldn't have worked harder to let the viewer know that all was not as it appeared, which to be fair is very much the appeal of the literary style of Lee Child alikes too. The reader must feel they're on to something before they're told, as if they were the sleuth.

That's one thing I like from shows like Doctor Who, who rarely uses explicit violence but still wins using 'wits' and 'intelligence'.

If i understand the Reacher Universe, unrelated hostage standoffs etc are happening constantly and only Reacher is astute enough to notice/strong enough to deal with them. If we were all a little more Reacher there would be no more trouble
