For those who may not know much about @dublininquirer.com, @lokapila.bsky.social and I started it in 2015, online edition weekly at first, and then adding a monthly print edition too. We were both journalists, new to Ireland, finding it hard to break into the industry, so we started our own shop. 2/

Dublin Inquirer is independent, meaning we’re not owned or controlled by any bigger company. Lois owns 83% of @dublininquirer.com, she and I are the directors. We’ve no one to answer to but our readers and subscribers. The company doesn’t do anything other than journalism stuff. 3/

It was working well there for a while. We grew from zero subscribers to about 2,200. Then inflation hit and energy prices spiked, and we lost some subscribers and then stabilised at about 1,850. Obviously, we’d like to grow a bit, so we could do more – but I think it's still a pretty good number. 5/

While for years there we got almost all of our income from subscriptions, since those have plateaued, we’ve been out looking for other sources of income. We’ve managed to get some grant funding, and also have started selling advertising again. 6/

We recently filed our annual accounts for the year ending 31/3/24, and the news was good: a profit of €133. Our accounts are with the CRO if you want to read them. We also have our own internal spreadsheets, which are more up to date. So let me tell you what those say, for calendar year 2024. 7/
