A Utah mayor ripped into ICE over “thuggery” and “demonstrably false” statements agents made during a viral traffic stop, and is urging the agency to investigate its own officers.

Here’s a great example of a police officer who knows his role is to serve and to protect his constituents! 👏🏽 bravo! We need more of this indignation from good people.
Oh look at this. I literally sat at the mayor's luncheon, which Mendenhall did not attend, but I listened to Mike Brown reassure everyone at the luncheon that nothing in Utah would change when it came to traffic stops. I guess that was just another lie from the very people sworn in to protect us. 🙄
One set of psychopathic thugs investigating another. How have people not figured out ICE is a criminal organization with nothing but contempt for the law and the people of the United States.
Trump: “Effectively closing” The Mexico border is the most frequently crossed border in the world, with approximately 350 million documented crossings annually; 960,000 per month. 40,000 trucks, trains, and 1 to 2 billion dollars PER DAY.
When y’all say you want the journalists to work for free, you are contributing to the demise of journalism. Journalists work hard, take a lot of crap, and have families to feed. Their work is valuable.
You agreed with the poster who wanted the news outlet to post only free articles, which kind of amounts to the same thing. But apologies if I misread your point.
Understood. I wish I could financially support all independent newspapers. I support 3 which is all I can do in retirement. Looked like a really important article that people should be aware of. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for supporting independent newspapers, whether it's us or another outlet! It's very much appreciated.
In this case, we shared a longer thread than we normally would precisely because this is an important story and we know not all of our followers are able to subscribe.
We would love to offer all of our stories for free — and we intend to! (see the link) — but for now, we rely on the support of our readers to keep doing the work.
The problem is in today’s market there are thousands of news organizations and can’t subscribe to them all
So I just literally scan the headlines and comments to get around the pay wall
A little marketing hint. A local paper posting pay wall articles to an international conversation board won't yield more subscriptions, even if seen by locals.
Posting a free article might display your value. Posting dead ends ... annoying as hell.
My feeling is if the media company chooses to save money by archiving in the cloud, making the article public to any archival retrieval system, it's their choice. They could always keep it on their own servers. Lots of media cos do just that.
“I request an inquiry into this incident,” Millcreek Mayor Jeff Silvestrini wrote in the email, “and, if warranted, consequences for your officers, to perhaps include criminal charges for providing a false report of information to my police officers in violation of [state law].”
“ICE sapped resources from both my city and Murray,” he wrote, “when they summoned ‘expedited assistance’ for an event which appears to have been nothing more than your officers having ‘thin skin’ in the face of a citizen’s exercise of his right to free speech.”
“Your officers’ conduct appears to reflect either poor training or the kind of unprofessionalism (dare I say thuggery) which gives all police officers a bad reputation.”
Silvestrini urged ICE to address the altercation and keep him informed of any disciplinary actions for the agents involved.

If only you could establish that once they're in custody pending charges?

ICE is Trump’s version of Blackshirts & Brownshirts.

Seriously, we can expect to see headlines like that next.
Useless.

I subscribe to three "digital newspapers". I'm sad I can't afford more.
But my beef is posting articles we can't read, thinking we will buy to read that one article.
It's not evil. It's just misguided.
I worked in high school in the '60s on a newspaper. I came to appreciate the difficulty of the work.
So I honor the copyright.
Just because I get paid doesn't mean I have to subscribe.
Just because I don't subscribe doesn't mean I think they should be free.
And if you've read my other comments in the same thread, you'd realize that.
