feels kind of obscene to say this now, but Peter David probably could've spent a few more years with his loved ones had he received just a little help from an industry he earned millions of dollars for

not the point OP's trying to make
regardless of if he had to or not, the point is that in this case, david and his family either had to pay up, or else. that isn't right, far from it, but that's the world we live in at the moment.
You can't separate things. He was screwed by marvel/disney/etc but no less than a Ford worker gets screwed by Ford, to name an example. The way they got so much more profit from someone elses job, is disgusting
True, the scale of Peter case makes it the more infuriating, but that's the way capitalism work, and what is incomprihensible to me, is that in the us, you've allowed capitalism logic finds his way into healthcare, something that in almost every country is off boundaries.
They didn't normalize that; the United States of America and the medical insurance companies are the ones who did, and who you should direct your anger at, not OP
In Canada, artists and everyone can contribute to PAL. It is a place where elderly artists can live if they end up insolvent. Plus, Canada has universal healthcare and MAID.
He was having strokes, and couldn't afford the medical bills. He had to spend time with fundraisers to raise money to treat them. His wife is still in medical debt and I believe there is a GFM to cover that.
tl;dr American healthcare gonna American healthcare best system in the world folks
"If he lived in a civilized country he would have all the necessary treatment. Health care should be public - it's a not a commodity, but a right".
This is exactly why healthcare should be a universal right. No one should die because they can’t afford treatment, and we cannot trust employers to do right by the people whose work lines their greedy pockets.
I always wonder how people in the US accept the concept of mandatory collective responsibility for car insurance, but if you propose the same for health insurance you’re a commie
Notably, that's only if you have a car and live in a state where insurance is required and adequately enforced.
Nothing stops someone from registering their vehicle in lower tax, no insurance New Hampshire and actually driving and living in Massachusetts. (It's a known issue.)

OP isn't trying to normalize paying for health, he's criticizing marvel, disney, and sony for not paying the people who make them money
but the fact of the matter is, that's how it is right NOW, and that is a big part of the reason why peter david is dead

So much talent yet he had 2 do a go fund me page to manage his health
With the highest net worth America sucks
I read this as „you have to have car insurance in most states“
