I used to plead with him: Kevin, please don't put on the Boat Shoes of Moderate Reasonableness, these are extreme, unreasonable times, and yet he did. Even back then the asymmetry was clear: Kevin talking sense and Instapundit talking rank nonsense that made you wonder how a law school employed him.

He was also a sweet man without a mean bone in his body. He could sometimes be exasperating, but was always willing to seriously engage without ever sinking to ad hominems. Losing Lance Mannion felt like this.
