I started reading it but had to stop because it kept making me cry, so I returned it to the library. It is well written but hit too close to home. I saw that a NY doctor sent pills to a woman in Louisiana and they are charging her.

She said everything she wrote about in that book has already happened. The biggest difference is that it isn't just bipoc women who are affected.

Thank you for noting this. Black women, Indigenous women, & women of color have already experienced Handmaiden horrors. It's been noted that a reason the book resonates with so many whitewomen is because Gilead poses a world where ww are no longer protected from it by proximity to whitemen

I try to make this point every time I see someone say something along the lines of "we are living in the handmaid's tale". I don't think it's out of malice but it's always worth mentioning that this has been a reality. I don't usually get a response, I get it, it's not comfortable but it's truth.

I've watched all 5 seasons that are out. I haven't read the book yet. Recently tried rewatching from the beginning and had to stop because it was too intense how relevant it is to what's going on.
