Maybe instead of fifty-five thousand remakes of already great films we could - and stick with me here - adapt books that haven’t been given an adaptation before. Or write ✨ new ✨ characters and new stories.
Imagine that.
Imagine that.

There is a third book in the trilogy, but I can't remember what its title is.
They are excellent books and I watched the movie in my head while I read. It would be epic
Find a winning formula, do it over and over again until it's devoid of everything that made it good in the pursuit of infinite profit, get mad and blame consumers when they stop buying it. Rinse. Repeat. Enshitify!
The big money only wants projects that they think will make more big money. Thus the serpent devours itself.
All these useless publishers want free $€£¥ for no effort
The Winter Soldier
The Whistling Season
They know those films have an audience base & that material already killed at the box office.
New books - who knows?
They live in terror of losing money (and therefore their jobs).
Title: "The Alto Knights"
But we all know the entire budget doesn't go into the film.
More than half the budget is devoted to MARKETING & P.R.
Unlike with novels.
Pissed their pants when Sigourney brought in her own accounts to check the numbers.
That's called "Hollywood accounting." 😄
But yeah - $250M is nuts.
(How much of John Carter's 300 mil budget go into marketing? It's trailers were awful and sparse)
Greg Bear 'Eon' worth the effort too
All the Pratchett's, as well
Soul Music, Guards! Guards!, Colour of Magic, Going Postal, Hogfather...
But then when they do adapt a book most of the time it sucks, and I feel betrayed.
I honestly think the assholes would rather do a remake of "The Martian" right now than risk making a movie out of "Artemis" or "Project Hail Mary."

Imagine, a story not remade from Shakespeares era, or, even better, a story not taken from a comic printed in 1930’s..
This is life changing stuff!
Take it further, films from the books of modern writers, with fleshed out characters, complex plots 😱 OMG.
We do have Bosch tho 🤔
A few excellent examples, Game of Thrones (if you forget the final season), Wheel of time had a shaky first couple of seasons but it's really picking up on season three. Legend of Vox Machina is bloody good. So is Invincible.
DragonLance
Dragon Rider's of Pern
Drizzt Do'Urden
Elric of Melniboné

Film execs take notes!!!
lolololol
i was watching a new spiderman show recently that was great, it totally glossed over the whole origin story and got right to plot
which i don't recall cuz my memory is bad but i do know i liked it a lot, it was refreshing
Like I get that the '39 film has become ubiquitous with that world, but we can more than one take on things.
that would require spending more money and taking risk
that's not what art is about
movies are investment vehicles
